Day 1: From Los Nevados to León peak Base Camp
From Mérida it will take us about 3 to 4 hours in a 4*4 by public transport to get to Los Nevados, the starting point of the hike at 2600 meters above sea level. This picturesque village is a must in Venezuela, with its cobbled streets, small shops and breathtaking view of the valley. If you have time, we recommend an overnight stay in one of the small hostels. We enter the Sierra Nevada National Park after registering at the warden's office. The walk is done by a well marked path in the bottom of the valley but the slope does not weaken until reaching our camp point at 3800 meters of altitude after 5 to 6 hours of walking. The tent will be set up on the edge of Lake Cara Sucia.
Accommodation: Night in a tent.
Communication: No network.
